Two kilometers from the house is the small seaside of Agios Nikolaos, or Saint Nicolas, the region’s centre. Sixty kilometers further West is the airport of Irakleion. In reasonable distance from the house are the ruins of the ancient Minoan cities of Knossos, Phaestos, Lato, Gournia and Zakros, as well as Byzantine monasteries with unique historical and artistic wealth and interest. The town of Saint Nicolas offers its inhabitants and tourists alike a modern hospital, shops, hotels and public services. Finally, a little distance away from the house, is a marina for private boats, fully equipped with the latest facilities.
